On arrival we were extremely disappointed - it looks like a dump, a real dive! Chesterfields sitting outside, the odd kitchen chair scattered around - really awful I really did have second thoughts, and on checking in - after paying for three nights, the attendant then smiles and says "oh, we charge a $50 security fee". I said, "I don't think so, that wasn't written anywhere when I booked" and he just said "okay". Very strange.
The room was for myself and two grandchildren, ages 12 and 10. It appears clean, it is large, with a bedroom and another double bed in the living room space and has a kitchen, which is nice when you have the kids with you. It will do as we are just using it as a sleeping spot as we do some day trips - but the location is not what was described - yes it's close to the ferry terminal, but that's it - there is nothing else to give it credit for.
It's nice to have a kitchenette except that it was supplied only for Asian/Korean cooks - a rice cooker and some sundry dishes. No pots or pans at all, only one spoon, only one knife that doesn't cut anything. No wash cloths for washing up or wiping the table, no pot holders, and there was one filthy, rusty wok in the oven. Usually a kitchenette would have things such as napkins, or paper towels, salt and pepper - there wasn't even filters for the coffee maker - but there was approximately five tablespoons of coffee. And I'm pretty sure that the bathroom soaps etc. are just an varied array of what previous guests have left behind. Really not impressed. There was some signage in the place, but it was written in Korean. I wouldn't care if it was written in 50 languages, but English and/or French should be at the top of the list, depending where in Canada you are - and we are in Canada. This place needs to Canadianize a lot and most definitely clean up the front/resurface the parking lot - first impression - it stinks - (and the office does). Will I come back or recommend it - not a chance. I made a big mistake in booking this, I actually realize I confused the two hotels/motels that have almost the same name, and hit the wrong button I'm sure, but it was a last minute thing to take the grandchildren on a bit of getaway as we had to cancel going north because of the fires and it's hard to get anything for a long weekend. So, we will make do, but not happily!

My room was big and huge with a fine bathroom. The bed was great, as were the pillows. Location: the hotel was close to a local grocery store as well as Nanaimo and Cowichan.

Particularly good and unbeatable location close to the seaside boardwalk for evening walkThe owner lady was hilarious The best black berry wine that I have ever tasted made it easy to get to key attractions. And it was also just next door to the ocean, waterfront and the ferry, and the ferry terminal.
